An approximate Spikey can be constructed from an icosidodecahedron by augmentation with tetrahedra on the triangular faces and removing pentagonal pyramids on the pentagonal faces. The dihedral angle between adjacent equilateral triangles—one from a tetrahedron and the other from an adjacent pyramid—differs from 180° by less than 1°.
