A screw can be regarded as an inclined plane wrapped around a shaft. Rotating a screw within a barrel forces anything between the turns of the screw in an axial direction. This phenomenon is used to transport material in screw conveyors or to move objects in screw drives. In this Demonstration the material or object is represented by a green sphere. Extend the plot range of the screw in the opposite direction to produce a second screw.
