White lines can be seen in this figure of concentric circles. The white lines radiate outward from the center but also occur at other orientations. These patterns arise when continuous functions are used to specify drawing elements that are more precise than can be displayed using the pixels of a computer or video screen. Gaps occur where an element could not be placed. The alignment of gaps in this figure produces the perception of the white lines.
