The Demonstration displays the trajectories of two hydrodynamically interacting spheres exhibiting oscillatory shear flow. Newtonian fluid behavior at low Reynolds numbers is assumed.

The data for the motions of the spheres, beginning with a particular symmetric geometric arrangement, comes from Stokesian dynamics, a three-dimensional numerical simulation method developed in the mid-1980s by Bossis and Brady.
