Parameterized Offset Surfaces

Given a surface , construct a surface consisting of the points a distance λ along the normals to the original surface. Even for smooth surfaces, these so-called offset surfaces frequently develop cusps. In this Demonstration, the shape of such offset surfaces can be investigated for a special initial surface.
