A vertical pin is rotated with a crank mounted on a vertical drive shaft. As the pin turns, it slides in a fork and swings it to and fro around a hinge. This converts rotary to swinging motion. One of the major characteristics of this drive is that the motion of the fork is faster in one direction than in the other.
