This Demonstration plots the residue curve (RC) for a ternary mixture composed of oxygen, nitrogen, and argon. The yellow and the pink areas are the regions where distillate and bottom compositions, respectively, are feasible for a packed column. This is a cryogenic process, with the temperatures in the diagram varying between 77.4 K and 90.3 K, the boiling temperatures of nitrogen and oxygen, respectively.
