This Demonstration is a simple model of how soil temperature at different depths depends on periodic heating on the surface. The initial condition sets the temperature at all depths equal to a constant core temperature. Increase the number of periods and look at different depths. The left plot shows the entire range of depth while the right plot gives temperatures at particular depths.
