This Demonstration shows the outlet compositions from a single-stage, liquid-liquid extraction by following a step-by-step procedure on a ternary phase diagram. When you select "new problem," a new phase envelope is shown and a new feed composition and feed flow rates are set. In the steps, the feed and solvent compositions are located on the diagram, and a line connecting them is drawn to determine the mixing point location. The mixing point composition from the phase diagram is indicated by moving the sliders in Step 5. The compositions and the extract and raffinate compositions are located on a tie line in the last step.
