In large cities with dense traffic, a driver must consider whether it is faster to travel on congested interstate highways or on local roads with less traffic. The answer can be calculated with the formula where is distance, is the rate of travel, and is the travel time. With varying levels of congestion on an interstate, it is not always easy to estimate which route is quickest.
