Posterization is a process for reducing the tonal information in a continuous tone image to a limited number of target tone levels.

These target levels can be arbitrarily chosen. However, in this Demonstration, they are selected from the colors in the image itself. This helps in finding the most pleasing combination of colors and gives a more realistic poster effect.

Select between two and eight target colors by using the locators on the original image to the left. Use Alt+click on Windows or Cmd+click on Mac OS to create or delete locators.
