The Ponchon–Savarit graphical construction allows the determination of the number of equilibrium stages in the case of the separation of a binary mixture composed of -hexane and -octane. This Demonstration displays the number of equilibrium stages for the total reflux case. The operating lines are given by , the straight vertical magenta lines. Stages are alternatively stepped off using the tie lines and the operating lines.
