Swinging Double Slider-Crank

The double slider-crank mechanism was an early method for drawing ellipses. Two prongs of a fixed metal bar slide freely in two perpendicular slots. The bar has an extension that can be locked down. A pen or scriber at the end of the bar follows an elliptical path.
