Desmodromic Valve Train

This Demonstration shows a schematic animation of the desmodromic valve train of the 1954 W196 Mercedes Benz Grand Prix car superimposed on its patent illustration. The positive binding (Greek: desmos) of the valve's path (Greek: dromos) between opening and closing cams distinguishes this train from the conventional one that positions the path between an opening cam and a closing spring.
