Two runners start to run along a highway from different positions

and

and with different velocities

and

within a time of 1000 seconds. The plots show their positions as a function of time and the instant in time

when they meet, as well as the position

where this happens.

The problem is equivalent to finding the intersection of two straight lines given by the equations

, where

is the distance run and

is the time.
