This Demonstration models vehicle dynamics to estimate the battery pack size, weight and volume. The EPA Federal Test Procedure drive cycle is used for a given driving range along with the vehicle shape, size, weight and other metrics like efficiency. Examples for vehicles currently in production that have preset specifications are provided. Relevant specifications for any custom vehicle can be used as input to find different estimates for its battery pack. Current electric vehicles have battery pack specific energies in the range of 140 and 180 Wh/kg and higher values can be input in order to examine expected improvements in the years to come.
