A cylinder with radius 1 is tangent to the plane at the line that is the intersection of the two planes and .

Points on the cylinder have coordinates .

Unrolling a point from the cylinder to the plane gives rise to the map


where is the angular position of the point on the cylinder, and is the unrolling angle of the cylinder to the plane.
