Elasticity of Shear

Shear is the property that a body exhibits when it returns to its original shape as a distortion stress is removed (elasticity of shape). A tangential force (blue) acts over the area of a face (shear stress) and causes the deformation of the body that is measured by the angle of shear .

Shear stress is equal to and shear strain is , where is the shear modulus that depends on the material, and the linear displacement is equal to , where is the height of the solid.
