In this Demonstration, water is flowing through the tank and is being heated to attain a target temperature. A proportional control sensor provides feedback to the heater. The tank's outlet water temperature (red) often oscillates before converging. The sensor experiences a delay in measuring the temperature (blue), demonstrated by the time lag in the blue curve.
